Leveling Up Aerial Teacher Symposium (LATS)

With Elsie Smith & Serenity Smith Forchion & guest teachers

About This Symposium

Sym·po·si·um (noun)
– a conference or meeting to discuss a particular subject.
– a party or convivial discussion

Three jam-packed days of hands-on education, inspiration, camaraderie, and the opportunity to join other aerial educators to celebrate our passion!

As aerial coaches, we are asked every day to find new ways to teach our students and bring them new skills to learn. This symposium will bring us together to consider questions and share expertise. Led by Elsie Smith and Serenity Smith Forchion—each with over 30 years of coaching experience—and joined by other NECCA coaches, this will be a deep dive into aerial arts education with an up-close-and-personal experience that will inspire you and feed your aerial teacher spirit. Topics can include progressions for release moves, safety line set up and use, spotting for dynamic skills, and hints and tips for moving your students into new, more advanced material for both bar and vertical aerial apparatuses.

Meals will be included so you’ll have lots of time to get to know your peers and chat about topics over food.

Notes:

  • The final class schedule and activities will be based on your requests, and will include activities for bar and vertical apparatus coaches. After you register, you will receive a form to fill out with your requests.

Who can attend?
This workshop is for aerial teachers and studio owners. It is not an event for students, for someone just looking to learn new skills, or for someone who is new to teaching. Participants should have participated in some form of teacher training (this can be with Nimble Arts, Born to Fly, Paper Doll Militia, SOAR Aerial Arts or any other structured program) and have a current teaching practice that includes being comfortable teaching up to intermediate-level skills including skill progressions, spotting, and class management. We highly recommend that new teachers join a workshop specific to their needs.

Not sure if this is right for you? Please email Elsie Smith.

Apprentice participants:
There are some spots available if you want to be a human body for demonstrations and spotting practice. This includes newer coaches age 16 and up who would like to participate with their lead/mentor coach. Please email Elsie Smith.

Financial Assistance: There are a few 50% off assistance awards. Please apply using this form for adult workshops.

Ages:
18 & up
